Honoring Rev. Washburn

Washburn was instrumental in the founding of the East Central Social Agency in 1932 which coordinated relief efforts for the area reaching from Delaware Avenue to Broad Street, and Market Street north to Girard Avenue. He also served as vice president of the Episcopal City Mission.

During WW I he served as a chaplain at Camp Meade. While chairman of the Diocesan Committee on war work he put together, A Prayer Book For The Public And Private Use Of Our Soldiers And Sailors as well as a Hymnal for the Public and Private use of Our Soldiers and Sailors.

Washburn retired as rector of Christ Church in 1937. He preached his last sermon at Christ Church with a bandage around his head, the result of a mugging. Washburn died in 1938.
