                    Description
The practice of renting pews was common in 18th and 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of pew rents due to Christ Church and St. Peter's in March 1787. Entries are listed by pew number, with occupant's name, number of seats, sums due and sums paid. Many entries include the pew occupant's home address. Christ Church pew rents are listed from the beginning of the book, and St. Peter's pew rents start on page 13. The cover and initial pages at front and back are missing in the original volume.
