Description
The practice of renting pews was common in 18th and 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of arrearages, or late payments, for pew rents at St. Peter's in September 1810. Entries are listed by pew number, with occupant's name, number of seats, sums due, and often the home address of the pew occupant.
