The practice of renting pews was common in 18th and 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of pew rents due to Christ Church in September 1819 and March 1820. Entries are listed by pew number, with occupants' names, number of seats, amount of rent, total due and amount paid. Rents from September 1817 are listed from the front of the book, with pews in the gallery listed separately, with new page numbering. Page numbering starts over again with the pew rents from March 1820, and one more time with pews in the gallery again listed separately.
