Abstract
Letter and warrant concerning charitable support for John Childs, a divinity student and communicant of Christ Church in poor circumstances. Writing from New York on June 23, 1840, B. Dorr recommends to Moses Kempton that $50 be appropriated for Mr. Childs, who would otherwise lack funds to meet his expenses during the seminary vacation, especially as his mother's circumstances (at board) prevented him from residing with her [p. 1r]. Dorr also relays personal news of his safe arrival in New York, his engagements with the Board of Missions, the examination of students, and meetings of the Trustees, his intended departure for Boston, and his son Willie's illness with a severe cold and fever [p. 1r-1v]. An attached warrant dated June 29, 1840, from the Committee on the Rigbey Legacy directs the Warden of Christ Church to pay John Childs and charge the sum to the Rigbey Legacy, with notations recording a $20 payment in July 1840 [p. 1v].
