Description
Gilbert Tennent (1703-1764) was an Irish-American Presbyterian clergyman, and one of the leaders of the Great Awakening.
Tennent wrote this sermon on the topic of the birth of Christ in 1746, and begins with reference to Isaiah 9:6, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." (Note: it looks like the front cover contains notes for the sermon, while the back cover contains the title and date, written upside down. Also note, the paper is stained and ripped in places, making some of the text difficult to decipher.)
