Description
Gilbert Tennent (1703-1764) was an Irish-American Presbyterian clergyman, and one of the leaders of the Great Awakening.
Tennent begins this sermon, "On the longing for God's house," by citing Amos 4:12, "Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel." From dates noted in the manuscript, it looks like Tennent wrote this sermon in 1755, then delivered it again in 1758 and 1760.
