The practice of renting pews was common in 18th and 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of people who rented pews at Christ Church from 1785 to 1800. Entries are listed by pew number, with occupants' names, number of seats, dates occupied, and notes about the location of the pew and home addresses of the occupants. An insert at the back of the book illustrates the layout of the pews.
