Description
Gilbert Tennent (1703-1764) was an Irish-American Presbyterian clergyman, and one of the leaders of the Great Awakening.
This manuscript contains three sermons. Tennent begins the first sermon, about drunkenness, by citing Luke 21:3-4. He begins the second sermon, comparing hope to a helmet, by citing Ephesians 6:17. Finally, he begins the third sermon, comparing Christ to a fountain, by citing Zechariah 13:1.
From dates noted on the manuscript, it looks like the first and second sermons were delivered together, in 1744 or 1745, and the third shortly after. One or all were also delivered in 1748, 1749, 1757 and 1760.

Abstract
De ebrietate (On Drunkenness); De helm:it (On the helmet of hope) and De Christo ut fonte (On Christ as the fountain, or source) A set of 3 short sermons under one cover. Together they discuss behaviors that impede people, and what can offer the best hope. The first sermon briefly talks of gluttony and dwells on the various kind of damage caused by drunkenness (and the defenses people give for drinking), and too much concern with the worldly. The second sermon discusses anxiety and worldly worries especially as they draw people into crime or deprive them of any comfort in life. It draws on the powerful extended metaphor of the Christian as warrior from Ephesians 11-17 in talking of the helmet of salvation, here called the helmet of hope. The third sermon presents Christ as the cleansing fountain for repentant sinners of every kind and degree, forecasted in the Book of Zechariah, 13:1. Portions of this last sermon in outline form or in partial sentences.
