A letter from William Chaderton to William Meredith regarding an offer for an appointment as an Assistant Minister for the United Churches in Philadelphia for a term of one year. William Chaderton writes from Burlington, New Jersey, to William Meredith, Esq., of Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, to fulfill his promise of transmitting his final answer regarding the offer of a one-year appointment as an Assistant Minister in the United Churches in Philadelphia [p. 1r]. Chaderton states that his determination—the only one he considers consistent with prudence at the present moment—is that he would supply the vacant office for four Sundays (the 16th through 19th Sundays after Trinity), and would hold himself bound to state conclusively, at least a week before the expiration of this term, whether he could accept the offer [p. 1r-1v]. He closes with expressions of regard and respect. Marginal notations record that the letter was received July 6 and answered July 11 [p. 1v].
