The practice of renting pews was common in 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of pew rents paid to Second Presbyterian from 1792 to 1793. Entries include pew numbers, names of pew holders, how much of the pew they rented, and dates and amounts paid.

Note: A few loose pages related to church finances date from 1807 and 1838, including a record of accounts for the "New Church," which later became the 1st Presbyterian Church of Northern Liberties.
